Authors are inspired to write stories. This week, we are focusing on people and places which inspire us with our wonderful writing. For homework, please bring a 3x5 or 4x6 photo of someone special to you or some place special to you. This photo (due Monday, September 9th) will be stapled to the classroom bulletin board all year and returned in June.
Students were also asked to decorate construction paper hearts with symbols of people, things, and places that are important to them and glue it into the inside cover of their journal. Click here to see an example of the journal heart. Below you'll find the written instructions that were given to each student. 1. Fill your heart shape with words and/or pictures describing your memorable experiences (celebrations, successes, special events, vacations, etc.) and special people. You can draw the pictures or use photos or magazine clippings. 2. Use art materials and/or stickers to decorate your heart. 3. Glue your heart to the inside cover of your writing journal (spiral notebook). 4. In your journal, write a letter to your teacher. Introduce yourself in one paragraph and explain 1-2 parts of your journal heart in a second paragraph. Remember to use proper letter form. Lastly, each child's journal cover should be strengthened with Duct or packing tape and decorated with inspiring images and words. These visuals will provide powerful inspiration as we write about what's most important to us. Make sure it has your name, number, and a title on the front.
