Here are some examples the classes wrote today. The prompt was: The old house seemed mysterious.
Block 1-We approached the old house cautiously. Spider webs dangled from the corners of the porch, and weathered wood buckled from years of neglect. As the wind blew, the shudders clapped against cloudy broken windows. Beyond the window, I thought I saw a flicker of light. The old abandoned mansion seemed mysterious.
Block 2-“No trespassing” warned the sign in the front yard. I approached with caution and heard a screech in the distance. The terrifying sound sent a chill up my spine. Looking around the mysterious house, I saw thick, long cobwebs hanging like hammocks between the window frames. Through the dusty, broken windows, it looked dark inside. For a moment, I saw a small green glow which sent warnings to my brain. This house seemed very mysterious.
Block 3- A crooked, old fence wound around the house. In the wind, it creaked and breathed. The windows were boarded up with wooden planks and crooked stairs greeted me. As I stood in the driveway, I noticed a hole in the cellar door. A skinny black cat stared at me. I realized it had one brown eye and one blue eye that twitched. Still, I sensed something else was watching me. From head to toe, goosebumps spread across my body. I listened closely and heard distant screams. It couldn't be. I knew this house had been abandoned for nearly a century.
In addition to spellingcity.com, two pages are homework. Four prompt responses are due Tuesday. The others are due Thursday.
