For practice tonight, the kids asked to retell a shared memory with a family member. To begin, try brainstorming an object that inspires a seed story from your life. Just as it was for Miss Nancy in the book, Gordon Wilfred Partridge McDonald, it may be something as precious as gold, something warm, something that makes you cry, or something that makes you laugh.
Together, retell the important events and moments from the story. Try having a contest to see who can remember most. Better yet, tell the story Round Robin style!
Hint: If you're having trouble brainstorming, try working backward. Share a favorite memory, and then decide on an object that reminds you of that time.
Finally, outline the story, step-by-step, into the graphic organizer we used today. You may bring the item to school tomorrow and keep it on your desk as inspiration.
Happy writing!
