Wow! We had a wonderful first week! Our classes transitioned back to school smoothly, and many new friends were made. During our morning meeting, we brainstormed ideas about the ideal classroom and decided on conduct expectations. I was quite impressed by the deep thinking, respectful communication, and good citizenship that was shown. Way to go! A strong start assures me that we have a wonderful year ahead!

Reading and writing are two of my favorite things! Sharing my favorites with my students is one of the best things about being a teacher. We’ll share lots of our favorite things this year, and I look forward to learning more about some of your favorites. You can learn more about me by linking to my about page through the more tab at the top. My co-teachers are Mrs. Dacey and Mrs. Waller. You will find our classrooms across from the library entrance. We look forward to meeting you and your parents at the Meet the Teacher Night which will be held on Thursday, August 22nd, from 5:30-6:30. Feel free to bring your school supplies and leave them on your desk. That way, you'll have a lighter backpack on the first day of school! See you then! Love, Mrs. Martinez This week, students are completing animal research notes in preparation for their trifold project. Today, students reviewed paraphrased note format and were taught citation rules. Note pages were sent home for completion and are due Thursday. The animal trifold will be completed in class. Below, there are research links. Field Day is this Thursday. Water activities are planned. Please send your child to school with a disposable lunch and a change of clothing, including socks and shoes. It will be a fun day for all! Tomorrow, Fourth Graders will bring home an invitation to our final Author's Celebration. The event is scheduled for May 31st and requires all guests to have completed a CISD background check. Please make plans to complete the background check if you have not already done so. Dear Parents,
As you know, your child will take the Math STAAR Test tomorrow and the Reading STAAR Test on Wednesday. Please send a sack lunch on both days since we will be eating lunch in our classrooms. Students may also bring a water bottle that closes securely and a healthy snack that will not compromise test materials (i.e. pretzels, bite-size crackers, string cheese, carrots). Please keep your child's backpack and school supplies at home during testing. Your child may bring a drawstring bag or small backpack to transport their chapter books, lunch, and snack to school. This will be especially helpful to bring on Wednesday since Tuesday folders will be sent home at the end of the day. Getting a good night’s sleep, having a healthy breakfast, and arriving to school on time are great ways for students to prepare for the day. We look forward to seeing your child tomorrow morning! Thanks for all of your support, Mrs. Martinez, Mrs. Dacey, and Mrs. Waller Good afternoon, Parents!
By now, I imagine you have heard about the wondrous writing of author, Patricia Polacco. This is certainly one of my favorite units of the year! It makes my heart full to see your young learners so engaged in their reading and writing. This week, her writing has inspired us to write our own memoirs, reader's responses, comics, and letters. Next week, we begin writing our family member biographies. As written in your child's planner: completed interview notes were assigned Monday and are due tomorrow morning. Your child's completed essay will become a family treasure, for sure! Thank you for sharing your sweet young authors with me each day. Happy reminiscing, Mrs. Martinez Last week, we began an author study of Patricia Polacco. Through her wonderful books and entertaining interviews, she is teaching us how powerful our words and memories really are.
Through her stories, we are reviewing reading objectives, including plot elements, character analysis, and comparing across texts; as well as, writing objectives, inckuding letters, memoir quick writes, and a final expository composition. Polacco is the perfect mentor author for our young readers and writers. Her inspiration and illustrations are gifts to be opened each day.
